Award for Typographic Excellence in Communication Design
Graphic Design Program Director, Edward Coffey and Program Assistant Caroline Koegler, recently received an award for the design of the Raffles Graduate Exhibition 2015, consisting of an annual, posters, invitation and web animations.
The design plays with the numerals “2015”. The figures are divided to create abstract forms, completed when seen with their counterparts on the succeeding page, poster or frame (animation). Major titles also follow the same playful typographic principle.
Their entry in the TDC Communication Design Competition has been selected by the judges to receive the “Certificate of Typographic Excellence”. It will be included in the Annual of the Type Directors Club, Typography 37, and will also be shown at the 62nd Awards Exhibition (TDC62) in New York City.
This year 379 winners were selected from over 2000 entries from 49 countries. Besides being exhibited in New York City, the winners will also be included in 8 exhibitions that will tour cities in the United States, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Japan, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The Type Directors Club is the leading international organisation whose purpose is to support excellence in typography, both in print and on screen. Through the annual competition, the TDC highlights the best of the best typographic work in both communication and typeface design from studios and individuals both in the US and internationally.
The TDC Annual is highly respected within the design community – many consider it the highest honour and most prestigious accomplishment to be featured on its pages. In addition to celebrating outstanding achievements, the typography competitions and resulting annuals serve as important historical records of typographic trends, and are an invaluable resource for both designers and scholars.
